My name is Esethu and I live in a village in South Africa, with my mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. We live in a one-room tin shack. The roof tends to leak in the rainy seasons; and is very hot in summer and very cold in winter. We cook by using electricity and paraffin-gas as fuel. I share a bed with my mother, and my sister sleeps on the floor. We do not have running water so we must collect our water from a street-tap. My mother has a part-time job working for a local municipality. She cleans in the area and keeps the streets tidy. Out of this, she gets a small stipend which adds to the child support grant that we receive. Sometimes she struggles to care for us because the money is not enough to cover all our needs. Food is scarce towards the month’s end, but my grandmother helps us when she can. I love going to school and I have friends with whom I play soccer during break time at school. I am good at soccer, that is why I was chosen to play for a team in a local club. My dream is to become a professional soccer player; playing for big teams when I grow up – maybe being a soccer star. I will aim high with my education because I know that everything in life is based on being educated. Your sponsorship will help my mother a lot, to care for me so that she can provide for my needs in a better way, such as with food and uniform for us. I am very grateful for your support. Thank you!
