Adult Education “2nd Chance” classes are offered to all eligible women participating in the activities of the WEE program.
Interested women who didn’t have the opportunity to finish 8 grades of school. Roma girls who fall behind in their studies are more likely than Roma boys to drop out of school. House chores, early marriage and traditional child-rearing activities exclusively carried on by Roma women, prevent them from ever going back to school.
Individualized curriculum is offered by certified local teachers who coach adult women towards graduation. Child care services offered during classes make this endeavor possible. Women finishing the adult education program receive the equivalent of a GED from Project Ruth, and are deeply empowered by this experience of academic success.
Women are also more able to supervise and help their own children with homework, thus increasing their chances to stay in school longer.
