Sumri lives in Sri Lanka. He is 6 years old and is in 1st grade. When he was a year old, his mother went abroad to look for work in the Middle East. Sumri went to live with his grandparents. His father eventually left the family and married another women. After two years, Sumri’s mother returned home, but didn’t care for him and re-married, leaving him with his grandmother. Sumri’s grandmother is 48 and has 3 children. Her husband is a fisherman but can no longer go out to sea, so he earns a little income selling food. Sumri’s grandmother finds it difficult to care for the family with such a small income. They live in a house donated by the government, but she finds it difficult to educate, feed and provide other needs. It makes Sumri’s grandmother sad when she shares Sumri’s story. Sumri feels sad also when he hears about his parents and past. He attends school regularly. After school, he used to go to the Matharasa closest to his house. He misses having parents who love and care for him. He has challenges to overcome to have a life like other children in the community. Your sponsorship will help him have a better life.
