Shalomi lives with her mother and 5 siblings in a poor rural community in Sri Lanka. Her father abandoned their family and remarried. Shalomi’s mother struggles to provide for herself and her children. Not being able to work, due to a hip injury caused by Shalomi’s father, her mother is consumed with worry and concern regarding her children’s lives and futures. Shalomi lives in a home built with tin sheet and palm leaves, where she is not safe and doesn’t have a good shelter from heavy rain. Her family survives on rice, and the family’s health and hygiene are a large concern. Shalomi developed septicemia and had to drop out of school for one year. Now she is in the 3rd grade and enjoys studying. She hopes to one day become a doctor. At home she likes to help by cleaning. Your sponsorship will help Shalomi by providing her with basic necessities, food and educational supplies. With a CERI sponsorship, she’ll be able to continue going to school, achieve her goals, and have a chance for a brighter future.
