CERI-India Director presents to Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS)
on Alternative Care Systems in India
Ian Anand Forber Pratt of the Centre of Excellence in Alternative Care of Children, India (CEAC)
presented to Executive and Middle Level Head Office Management at IGSSS
Ian Anand Forber Pratt’s lecture spoke about the field of Alternative Care in India and the transition from a reliance on orphanages (institutions) to one on family-based care. He explained that the transition can be called true social reform and the multi-dimensional complexities are relevant across the social sector.
Executive Director of IGSSS, Mr. John Peter Nelson, said the lecture was a “very passionate presentation and (Ian’s) commitment and contribution to the cause of alternate care was highly laudable.”
The management team of IGSSS engaged Ian Anand in critical and important dialogue about the risks involved in family-based care and how to account for stigma in society surrounding the care and protection on non-blood-related children in a family. With over 150 team members, IGSSS has a presence in 25 states and one Union Territory of India.
The Centre of Excellence in Alternative Care provides trainings, guest lectures and resources to both governmental and non-governmental organizations throughout South Asia on the concept of alternative care including family preservation/ strengthening, kinship care, sponsorship, foster care, adoption and institutionalization.
